An Evening Meditation by the Sea: I am sorry for the postponement of our evening of meditation by TWO (2) weeks. I have had some ajor health issues this year and I came to Canyon Ranch here in Lenox MA two weeks ago. To my surprise and the surprise of all my doctors, whatever is happening here is working to keep a recurring staph infection in my body AWAY! I have been doing accupuncture, energy healing, clearing energy blocks, hypnosis, qi gong, hours of meditation, chair yoga (because of my leg I am on crutches), ayurvedic treatments, meetings with physicians, meetings with naturopaths, herbalists, nutritionists, started a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, hydromassage, and much much more! I don't know what is working to keep my CRP and ESR (inflammatory markers) down--they have dropped in HALF since I have been at Canyon Ranch--but something is working, and so I must stay here another week or so--I owe it to myself and to my body. I have had 16 surgeries on my leg in the past three years, and have had I don't know how many rounds of intravenous antibiotics, so if this works, I need to keep with it. Happiness is our birthright! Dis-ease, I believe, is a result of toxic emotions built up and turned inwards. I have released a lot of this "gunk" over the past couple of weeks and that is why I believe I am healing! So, I am deeply sorry to be canceling Monday's meditation, but I will be much more use to everyone HEALTHY when I get back! So I am posponing the Meditation until Monday August 2nd. Come join us on the Beach for a 20 minute Guided Meditation Followed by Disussion! Note that I have made this Meditation by the Sea on a Monday evening, rather than a Sunday morning, for those of you who are not morning people (or early morning Sunday people, more precisely!) So Come Join us on Monday August 2nd at 6:30pm! The Meditation will be on Courage. Following the Meditation, and to get some great conversation started, we will look at the following passage taken from the book "When Things Fall Apart" by author Pema Chodron: "Sometimes we meet someone who seems to have a great sense of well-being, and we wonder how that person got that way. We would like to be that way. That well-being is often a result of having been brave enough to be fully alive and awake to every moment of life, including all the lack of cheer, all the dark times, all the times when the clouds cover the sun. Through our own good spirit, we can be willing to relate directly with what's happening, with precision and gentleness. That's what creates fundamental cheerfulness, fundamental relaxation." (p. 145). At the end of our meeting, we will discuss briefly our first upcoming group project: The study of Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose." We will discuss what days/times work for people, how often we should meet, whether people would prefer to watch the classes together or watch them on our own time and then just get together to discuss the readings, the workbook exercises, and the lectures (FYI these classes take the form of conversations between Eckhafrt Tolle and Oprah Winfrey with Q&A with questions coming from the millions of people who tuned in LIVE from around the world --the classes were taped back in 2008 and each class runs about 1 hr 20 minutes if you skip through the commercials--there are 10 of them total--one for each chapter of the book, and they are available on www.oprah.com) The workbooks are also available on Oprah's website and each chapter of the book has a corresponding set of workbook exercises/questions. This book changed my life, and changed the lives of many who have read it. I am very excited to read the book again and take the class again with all of you! I guarantee you will LOVE the experience!! Right now my plan is to start the class the last week in last week in August, first week in September at the latest. So start thinking about these questions so that we can talk details when we meet on July 19th for our Evening Meditation by the Sea! I also want us to study together the Baghavad Gita and the I Ching, both of which I am in the process of reading now. Look forward to meeting you all in person and I hope you can all make it to this wonderful, magical evening of discussion and meditation!
